About Us

REST is an at-home pet euthanasia service based in Ribble Valley, Lancashire. We offer a compassionate and dignified service that allows your pet to enjoy their final moments in the comfort of their own home, by your side.

Background

REST was founded by Della, who has extensive experience in the veterinary industry. She studied a BSc (Hons) in Zoology at Aberdeen University before volunteering with the Kenya Wildlife Service. This experience encouraged Della to undertake a Masters in Wildlife Management and Conservation.

From there, Della transitioned to the world of television, where she worked in cable TV eventually BBC News in London. This was an exciting career, but ultimately the doom and gloom of news reporting pushed Della back towards the veterinary world. She successfully secured a placement at Glasgow University to study Veterinary Medicine and Surgery. Today, Della holds a BSC Hons, MSc and BVMS, as well as extensive experience in all aspects of small animal medicine in surgery.

The Roots of REST

REST grew from a blend of Della’s passion for animals and her top-level expertise in veterinary medicine and surgery. Veterinary work is more than just a job for Della - it’s a real passion and a privilege. At REST, Della managed to create a service that gives pets the dignity and respect they rightly deserve at the end of their lives. By focusing on creating a comfortable, private and safe setting for pets and their owners, REST aims to make the passing of a pet more compassionate and caring.

The work carried out by REST is designed to give vets and owners space to ask questions and learn about the process of euthanasia in a comfortable and accepting environment. If an owner has any doubts or questions, we make sure to discuss things without any time pressure that you might expect to find in a clinical environment. This gives both pets and owners time to go through the process at their own pace. The aim is that this makes the loss of a pet a little less traumatic for those involved.

Our Services

Kai

After graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science, I began working as a full-time vet in first-opinion practice, and am now working towards a certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice. Animals have always been a passion of mine, so it’s a privilege to spend each working day caring for them. Outside of work, you’ll usually find me out on the fells with my Cocker Spaniel, Margot, or spending time in the gym.

Jayde

I attended Myerscough University from 2019 to 2022, where I graduated with an FdSc degree in Veterinary Nursing. After earning my degree, I worked in a first-opinion small animal practice, where I gained valuable experience and conducted my own senior cat clinics. Driven by a desire to explore my special interests in medical inpatient nursing and emergency and critical care nursing, I transitioned into out-of-hours (OOH) emergency and critical care (ECC) work, where I have now been for a year. Outside of work, I share my life with my French bulldog, Margo, as well as a collection of pet fish and frogs.

Matt

I graduated in 2017 with an FdSc in Veterinary Nursing and later completed my BSc in 2022. After finishing university (the first time), I began my career at a large referral hospital in the south, where I continued to develop my skills and earned a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC). Since then, I’ve been able to express my passion for caring for animals in a variety of roles. However, working for REST has been one of the most rewarding. Being able to provide pets with a peaceful, stress-free passing in the comfort of their own home is a true privilege, and I’m honoured to support families through such an important and sensitive moment.

Chris

With over four years of experience in veterinary emergency care, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and skilled support to pets in need. My passion for animals drives me everyday, and I take pride in being part of a team that prioritises their health and well-being. At home, I share my life with two spirited mini schnauzers, Penny and Molly, who inspire my commitment to animal care. Whether in the clinic or at home, my love for pets fuels my work and my mission to make a positive impact in their lives.

Sharon

I'm Sharon, a Life Long Animal Lover, and the proud mummy of a 10 year old English Bulldog Terrier called Bonzo. I bring a pet's ashes home to their families, following an individual cremation. I recognise what a difficult decision it is to have your pet put to sleep, and so always strive to be prompt, caring and sensitive.

Experience

Della’s professional career began in 2009 where she worked in Ribble Valley with a focus on small animal medicine and surgery. After working at Stanley House Vets Colne for 3 years, Della spent some time GP locum in day practice. This encouraged her to move towards OOH emergency clinics alongside day practice around 10 years ago. Today, Della primarily works in emergency hospitals, dealing with critically injured animals.

Our at-home euthanasia service at REST covers a 40-mile radius of the BB7 postcode in Ribble Valley, Lancashire. This coverage ensures that we can make suitable adjustments for the visit and be there when you need us most.
